Elisabeth Moss as June and Cherry Jones as Holly in The Handmaid's Tale Season 6
After 6 seasons and 66 episodes, one of Hulu's most devastating dystopian series, The Handmaid's Tale, came to an end on May 27, 2025. However, the series finale wasn't the ultimate conclusion, as the story continues with The Testaments, whose premiere date Hulu has officially announced.
This comes over a month after the first look at the upcoming drama was released and about a year after Hulu ordered The Testaments to series. Similar to The Handmaid's Tale, the sequel was created by Bruce Miller. Based on new reports, The Testaments premieres on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, with three episodes on Hulu. It will be available on Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the US and on Disney+ internationally. Following the three episodes on the premiere date, one episode will be released per week thereafter. As previously teased by Ann Dowd, The Testaments is set"four to five years" after the end of The Handmaid's Tale, and although Aunt Lydia is still devoutly religious and living in Gilead, she is the leader of a new social class called the Pearl Girls. In anticipation of The Testaments, here's what to expect according to the official series description: “An evolution of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments is based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name and is a dramatic coming-of-age story set in Gilead. The series follows young teens Agnes, dutiful and pious, and Daisy, a new arrival and convert from beyond Gilead’s borders. As they navigate the gilded halls of Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives, a place where obedience is instilled brutally and always with divine justification, their bond becomes the catalyst that will upend their past, their present, and their future.” Who Stars in 'The Testaments'? In The Testaments, Dowd returns from The Handmaid's Tale as Aunt Lydia, while One Battle After Another breakout star Chase Infiniti portrays Agnes/Hannah, June and Luke's daughter. Furthermore, Lucy Halliday stars as Daisy, rounding out the main protagonists of Atwood's novel. The cast also includes Rowan Blanchard, who will be a series regular in Season 1, playing Shunammite,"a pampered teen from a prominent Gilead family whose status affords her a certain level of respect and power amongst her peers." Other names announced include Amy Seimetz, Jordana Blake, Brad Alexander, Mabel Li, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya, and Kira Guloien.
