A SEPTA train headed to Delaware caught fire in Delaware County, forcing passengers to evacuate. The incident caused temporary service disruptions on the SEPTA Regional Rail and Amtrak Northeast line.

A chilling incident unfolded for SEPTA passengers traveling in Delaware County when a Regional Rail train caught fire. Passengers on board were swiftly evacuated from the burning train and waited at the stop for alternative transportation to reach their destinations. The fiery incident occurred on a SEPTA train departing from Philadelphia, en route to Delaware. Services were abruptly halted near Crum Lynne in Delaware County around 6:15 PM Thursday due to the blaze.

Dnasia Buckner, a passenger on the train, recounted the harrowing experience, stating that everything seemed normal as they left Philadelphia. However, somewhere between Ridley Park and Norwood in Delaware County, the car she was traveling in began to emit a strange odor. 'We had to get up and relocate to another car, and then we had to get up and relocate again, and that's when I started to see smoke coming from the side of the train. And, as people were walking by, they said the train's on fire, but the conductors aren't saying anything. And, eventually they opened the doors and we got off,' she explained. Buckner added that passengers endured approximately 15 minutes of smelling smoke before the evacuation. She estimated there were about 200 passengers on board, and it took about 15 minutes to disembark safely. Video footage from the scene captured swirling smoke billowing from one of the train cars.Several SEPTA buses arrived around 7:15 PM Thursday evening to transport the stranded passengers to their intended destinations. Amtrak also issued alerts notifying their passengers that service on the Northeast line between Wilmington and Philadelphia was suspended due to fire department activity on the tracks. An hour later, Amtrak announced the resumption of normal service. Despite the frightening incident, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains undisclosed
