A tragedy unfolded on a South Philadelphia street Friday night when a husband and wife were struck by a SEPTA bus, resulting in the death of the husband. The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of Washington Avenue and South Front Street. According to officials, the couple was crossing northbound on Front Street when the SEPTA bus was making a turn off Front Street westbound. They were almost at the sidewalk when they were hit.
A Philadelphia Police officer performed life-saving measures on the husband, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The wife was transported to Temple University Hospital, but her condition remains unknown. Lt. Brown with the Philadelphia Police Department's Crash Investigation Division stated that the couple was crossing northbound on Front Street when the SEPTA bus made the turn. Both Philadelphia Police and SEPTA have launched investigations into the tragic incident. In a statement, SEPTA expressed their condolences and commitment to fully cooperating with the Philadelphia Police investigation. SEPTA's System Safety Division is also conducting its own examination of the incident
