News that Seoul's Mayor Park apparently took his own life has rocked the South Korean capital, which is home to more than 10 million people. The elected official had been tipped as a potential presidential candidate in 2022.

Police also confirmed a criminal complaint had been made on Wednesday alleging"sexual molestation" against Park.

This prompted a massive police search and Park's body was found just after midnight near the Bukak Mountain area of the Sungbuk district of Seoul, Choi Ik-su, the director of criminal litigation at Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, told press during a briefing Friday."Currently, we found no evidence to support murder, but we will nevertheless conduct a thorough investigation into his death," Choi said.

A representative for Park's family issued a statement on their behalf saying it was time to let him go and urging people to avoid spreading"groundless statements."
