Netflix's Senzo murder crime docu-series is a swirling tabloid stew without any real answers

The thrilling five-part true crime documentary series delves into the beloved soccer star's murder, sharing insight into what transpired that fateful night when Meyiwa was gunned down in what was alleged to be a botched robbery in 2014., Netflix Africa's 5-episode docu-series, takes the same cookie-cutter cupcake plate ofand butters it up with a localised murder scandal; however, it is less successful when you bite into the end-bake.

Executive produced by docu-storytelling firebrands Thandi Davids, Neil Brandt and Tendeka Matatu, with Sara Blecher as director and producer, the series feels somewhat half-baked since the court case is still ongoing. Don't expect any nicely wrapped denouement for your 3 hours 45-minute investment.Carte Blanchecrime-reality series on M-Net, which tells contained horrific crime stories from beginning to the gruesome end.

While there are many unexpected twists, turns, and thematic tabloid headlines brought in throughout the densely-packed 5-episode Senzo series, the lack of proper closure in the Senzo murder story comes across as its biggest viewer injustice.

In the end, the series doesn't leave the viewer any the wiser about what happened or the killer. If you've been a fan or read the news, or followed the case, there's very little new to justify five episodes. Like a TV version of Cluedo, the speculation keeps swirling without, in the end, pulling out the cards, very similar to the way that South Africa's tabloid newspapers have been covering the case over the years with more question mark banner headlines than answers. By the way, tabloid headlines flash throughout the story as if to instill the idea that the series took its cue and speculation template from the past eight years of tabloid headlines.
