Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III admonished Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno for his “play on words” when he claimed the Government Service Insurance System and Social Security System can invest in projects backed by the Maharlika Investment Corp. to be formed out of the MIF law.

“What Congress intended should be the standard for how the law is implemented. The Executive is not allowed to change, expand or limit it based on its own interpretation,” she said. “We put a premium on the public’s right to freedom of information by giving them access to investment plans for the fund and to audit documents,” she said.

Earlier, National Treasurer Rosalia de Leon addressed fears that ifthe Maharlika Investment Fund loses money, the pensions of state andprivate workers would be put at risk.
