Senators hit DOH for inaccurate COVID19 data

Health chief says corrections made, errors just 1 pct of data MANILA - Several senators on Wednesday condemned the Department of Health after the University of the Philippines' Resilience Institute flagged "alarming errors" in the agency's data on COVID-19 cases in the country, which the government uses as the basis of its policies during the global pandemic.

The DOH should clarify its data as "doubts on the actual figures of COVID-19 cases further compound the fact that we are hopelessly behind in our testing program," detained Sen. Leila de Lima said in a separate statement, referring to discrepancies in the number of new COVID-19 cases in the Philippines.

"I can not directly say there is negligence in data collection, handling, processing, or interpretation. We expect DOH and UP to be experts in their respective fields and they are both working under one government so they have to fix it ASAP," he told reporters in a text message. "This is not the first time that the DOH leadership is being challenged to prove itself - or leave their posts if they cannot be up to the job," he said.
