Senator Raffy Tulfo plans to introduce a Senate resolution revising the Family Code of the Philippines following the murder of a Filipina by her Slovenian husband. The resolution seeks to mandate neuro-psychiatric evaluations and drug testing for all foreign nationals seeking marriage to Filipino citizens. Senator Tulfo highlights the dangers of mail-order bride trends and emphasizes the need to protect Filipinos in international marriages. Department of Foreign Affairs Usec. Eduardo de Vega supports the resolution and reports that Slovenian authorities are investigating the incident.
Senator Raffy Tulfo is set to introduce a Senate resolution aimed at revising Executive Order No. 209, otherwise known as the Family Code of the Philippines, in response to an incident involving a Filipina who was murdered by her Slovenian husband on December 29.
Tulfo’s proposed resolution seeks to ensure that all foreign nationals undergo mandatory neuro-psychiatric evaluations and drug testing before being granted marriage permits to Filipino citizens. “Unfortunately, this leaves little opportunity for women to adequately assess the character of their partners,” Tulfo added.
