Senator Dan Sullivan brought a delegation of federal and state leaders to Kipnuk and Kwigillingok, Alaska, to assess the damage caused by a recent storm. The visit aimed to provide firsthand experience of the devastation and highlight the resilience of the local communities. The delegation included representatives from the Office of Management and Budget, FEMA, the Red Cross, and state and tribal leaders.

C. effective in responding to Halong. “It’s one thing to get a PowerPoint or a briefing back in D.C.,” Sullivan said, speaking to media after leaving his plane and before heading to the impacted communities. “It’s another thing to be on the ground, in the mud, seeing really the suffering, but also the resilience of the people in this region.”The trip included the U.S. Deputy Director of Management of the Office of Management and Budget, FEMA leadership, a representative from the Red Cross, Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium leaders, Alaska’s House Speaker, the impacted areas’ state senate and house lawmakers, and military leadership.In Kipnuk, the devastation was most visible. State numbers report 90% of the village was destroyed. In both communities, their schools have served as a major place for living, keeping electricity functioning, washing and storing food. Director of the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Bryan Fisher previously told Alaska’s News Source he would like both Kipnuk and Kwigillingok to be able to be safe to return back to.
