Joe O’Dea, the Republican challenging Sen. Michael Bennet in this year's midterm elections, pledged to"actively campaign against" former President Donald Trump.
An interview with CNN anchor Dana Bash on Sunday turned to the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, which O'Dea called a"black eye" for the country, and he called for accountability, as well as getting the country to move forward."I don't think Donald Trump should run again," O'Dea added."I'm going to actively campaign against Donald Trump and make sure that we have got four or five really great Republicans right now.
He listed other leading members of the party, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who like Trump, is considered a top-tier candidate for the GOP if he decides to run for the presidential nomination in 2024. "Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, they could run and serve for eight years. I'm going to do my job as a U.S. senator to make sure that they have good campaigns in the primary here, so we have a good selection of candidates for 2024," O'Dea said.O'Dea, a businessman who hasn't been afraid to say Trump lost the 2020 election, is putting up a fierce challenge against Bennet, the Democratic incumbent.
A survey reported by the Washington Examiner in late August showed a virtual tie between the two, while the Cook Political Report rates the race as"lean" Democrat.

Walker, Warnock meet for only debate in Georgia Senate raceDemocratic Sen. Raphael Warnock and his Republican challenger, Herschel Walker, will meet Friday night for their only debate in Georgia's marquee Senate contest, just days before in-person early voting begins. The 60-minute session, which will take place before a live audience, comes in the wake of reports that Walker paid for a girlfriend to have an abortion in 2009 before later fathering a child with her. “Raphael Warnock will have to answer why he has voted 96% of the time with (President) Joe Biden, giving us record-high inflation, all while doubling his own income,” Walker aide Will Kiley said, previewing now-familiar assertions from Republicans.
