A partial federal government shutdown looms as Senate Democrats have threatened to hold up funding for the Department of Homeland Security after two U.S. citizens were murdered by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Minneapolis. The Senate passed a deal to fund the government on Friday. The bill must go back to the House to avoid a government shutdown. Although Democrats pushed back against the provision, the funding package included a two-week extension to fund the Department of Homeland Security.held up the funding package over "sanctuary city" policies. Graham later reversed course and said he would allow speedy consideration of the funding if he could vote on senators suing if their phone records are seized. Graham's phone records were allegedly taken as part of Special Counsel Jack Smith's Arctic Frost investigation. "I'm not going to give up on the idea that we should abandon holding Jack Smith accountable. The House, you took the Arctic frost language of the Senate and took it all out. You could have called me about the 500,000. I'd be glad to work with you. You jammed me. Speaker Johnson. I won't forget this. I got a lot of good friends in the house. If you think I'm going to give up on this, you really don't know me." Earlier on Thursday, Graham demanded answers and legislative changes regarding local authorities' cooperation with federal immigration officers. “To the Republican Party, where have you been?” Graham of South Carolina said in a speech on the Senate floor.
