The Senate has failed to pass a House-passed Paycheck Protection Program reform bill in the chamber, a sign that members from both parties still have not come to an agreement over how to green-light fixes to the program
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York asked for unanimous consent to pass the legislation making changes to the program, but GOP Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin objected, blocking approval."I'm not disagreeing with the fact that we have to do something. I want to do something as well. I just want to make sure that if we do put more money into this thing it's not going to be flowing to businesses that don't need it," Johnson said.
Republicans divided over fixes for small business Paycheck Protection ProgramThe vote in the House approving the legislation was nearly unanimous at 417-1. Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky was the sole member to vote against the bill. The legislation -- titled the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act -- was introduced by Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas and Democratic Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota.
