Senate Democrats reveal new digital privacy bill strengthening FTC's enforcement powers over tech
Top Democratic senators revealed a new online privacy bill Tuesday that could mark a milestone in the lengthy push for a federal privacy law.
The bill would provide protections for digital consumers and establish a new bureau within the Federal Trade Commission to enforce digital privacy rights. Washington Sen. Maria Cantwell, the top Democrat on the Senate Commerce Committee, is leading the charge for the new bill as Congress has struggled to come to a consensus on what to include in federal privacy legislation.
