A group of Democratic senators, led by Sen. Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, are proposing an amendment to the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would remove a restriction on transgender procedures for minors. The amendment aims to allow military families to make their own healthcare decisions, arguing that it protects their right to access sometimes life-saving care. The House passed its version of the NDAA last week, which contains a section preventing the military health care program from covering treatments that could result in sterilization for individuals under 18. Republicans, however, maintain their stance on protecting children from what they consider radical gender ideology and experimental drugs.
