In a bipartisan vote, the Senate confirmed Sean Duffy, former Representative from Wisconsin, as the new Secretary of Transportation. Duffy outlined his priorities, focusing on aviation and highway safety, addressing the air traffic controller shortage, and restoring trust in Boeing.

The Senate confirmed President Donald Trump's nominee to head the Transportation Department, former Representative Sean Duffy of Wisconsin, on Tuesday afternoon. Duffy, appearing before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee earlier this month, outlined his priorities for the department, which included aviation and highway safety, addressing the air traffic controller shortage, and restoring trust in Boeing in the wake of several major scandals.

The Transportation secretary nominee was confirmed by a bipartisan vote of 77 to 22, securing the support of two dozen Democratic senators alongside the entire Republican conference. 'No federal agency impacts Americans' daily lives and loved ones like the Department of Transportation,' Duffy told lawmakers on January 15th at his confirmation hearing. He emphasized the need for the best and brightest air traffic controllers, advocating for the modernization of systems with cutting-edge technologies. Duffy pledged to collaborate with Congress and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to restore global confidence in Boeing and ensure air safety. He also committed to addressing the rebuilding of Interstate 40, which stretches from Wilmington, North Carolina, to Barstow, California. Parts of the interstate remain damaged across the Great Smoky Mountains following Hurricane Helene in September. Duffy stated, 'We're continuing to try to work through this process to get that rebuilt, but we need to know this will be front and center with you so we can get that interstate rebuilt and reopened.' Furthermore, he promised Senator Ed Markey (D-Mass.) that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's investigation into Tesla's self-driving software, which commenced this month, would continue under his leadership. Duffy previously represented Wisconsin's 7th congressional district for five terms before joining Fox News, where he co-hosted 'The Bottom Line' with Dagen McDowell on FOX Business.
