The Texas Republican, a former federal prosecutor, gained notoriety for his staunch defense of Trump during his first impeachment proceedings.
During his Senate hearing last week, Ratcliffe emphasized the need for the CIA to enhance its technological capabilities, particularly in artificial intelligence, to counter threats from adversaries like Russia and China. He stressed the importance of balancing these advancements with the protection of American civil rights. Democrats, however, expressed concerns about Ratcliffe's objectivity and loyalty to Trump, fearing that he might politicize his position and overlook critical aspects of the job.
