U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick is inviting Pennsylvania high school students to reflect on the nation’s history and future as part of a new essay contest tied to America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
McCormick announced the launch of the America250 Pennsylvania Youth Essay Contest on Tuesday, encouraging students across the Commonwealth to write about Pennsylvania’s role in shaping the country or the challenges facing the next generation of Americans. Winning essays will be entered into the Congressional Record, and the student authors will be invited to meet with McCormick in Washington, D.C.
“This year, America turns 250 years old — and no state has shaped that story more than Pennsylvania,” McCormick said in announcing the contest. Students may choose between two essay prompts:Discuss a major challenge the next generation must solve before the nation’s 300th anniversaryThe May 19 election results are coming in.
