Senator Imee Marcos on Saturday expressed her approval that “ailing” electric cooperatives must be penalized including Northern Davao Electric Cooperative Inc. .
Last year, ECs labeled as “red” or “ailing” under NEA’s third-quarter 2021 assessment report were Abra Electric Cooperative, Masbate Electric Cooperative, Sulu Electric Cooperative, Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative, Albay Electric Cooperative, Tawi-Tawi Electric Cooperative, and Basilan Electric Cooperative.
“Nakialam sila . Dissolved the board and took out all the members including the director general. Started a new. Yes it can be done and it has been done in several “ailing” coops. I am hopeful that this can be done in the rest of the ailing ECs including Nordeco,” she said in a press conference at The Royal Mandaya Hotel.
Nograles also reacted to the statement released by the legal counsel of Nordeco that a potential constitutional crisis is imminent if the four bills, which seek to amend the franchise areas of electricity distributors in Mindanao are to be passed.
