Montgomery, Alabama

U.S. Senator Katie Britt spoke at the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce’s Washington Brief breakfast this morning. Senator Britt was asked about the fact that some Republicans are now speaking out in frustration against Senator Tommy Tuberville’s hold on military confirmations. Britt spoke to a packed crowd at the RSA Activity Center about her support for Israel’s war against Hamas and the war in Ukraine.

President Biden’s administration instituted the policy after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Britt says she grew up in Enterprise which has a strong military community, and she knows how important servicemen and women are in keeping our country safe.

The Senate was able to confirm three top military officers on Thursday — including the first female member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff — but around 370 nominees are still blocked. The Senate has traditionally approved large groups of military nominations by a voice vote, but just one senator’s objection can upset that process.
