) - Senator Katie Britt will deliver the Republican response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on March 7, announced on Thursday by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell Britt was sworn into office last year.
She is the youngest Republican woman elected to the Senate and the first woman elected to the Senate from the state of Alabama. In the 2022 Alabama Senate Primary, former President Trump endorsed Britt following a flip from endorsing Rep. Mo Brooks. Britt’s State of the Union response comes following the Alabama Supreme Court controversy surrounding the future of in vitro fertilization. Britt, the daughter of two small business owners, was born and raised in Enterprise. She grew up sweeping the floor at her dad’s Main Street hardware store and cleaning the bathroom at her mom’s cinderblock dance studio. The freshman senator currently serves as an informal adviser to Mitch McConnell’s leadership team. She sits on the Banking, Housing and Urban Development Committee, the Rules and Administration Committee, as well as the Appropriations Committee.
