A 60-year-old man died in a semi-truck crash on I-65 southbound near Southport Road in Indianapolis on Thursday morning. The semi, carrying a load of wooden pellets, left the road and crashed into several interstate signs before catching fire. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
INDIANAPOLIS — A 60-year-old man died in a semi-crash on I-65 southbound just south of Southport Road on Thursday morning.According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, crews and officers with the Indiana State Police responded to I-65 South near the 101.8 mile marker just before 11 a.m. on reports of a crashed semi on fire.Indiana State Police alerted drivers to seek alternate routes via a post on X around 11:15 a.m. IFD says the semi was carrying a load of wooden pellets.
The driver of the semi was pronounced dead at the scene.A preliminary investigation shows the semi left the road for an unknown reason, crashing into several interstate signs. The vehicle caught fire after striking a guardrail.IFD says firefighters had a hard time putting out the fire due to a lack of hydrants in the area. They got the fire under control in 45 minutes.It is unclear at this time if the driver suffered a medical emergency leading up to the crash.
