Overnight travelers heading northbound on I-15 in Utah County were forced to a complete stop near Santaquin early Thursday when a semi-truck's trailer caught fire and became fully engulfed, authorities said.
The incident was first reported at 2:28 a.m. about two miles north of Santaquin, according to the Utah Department of Transportation, which originally estimated the scene would be cleared just before the morning commute. Northbound lanes were completely closed as fire crews responded to the scene. UDOT's traffic camera showed firefighters spraying the scene and surrounding roadway with water as several others jumped into to action to detach the truck from the trailer and prevent any fuel from igniting as well.As the sun rose on the scene, heavy machinery and multiple workers could be seen removing the remnants of the fire from the right side of the freeway.
