An inquest has heard that Selesa Tafaifa, who died in a Townsville prison in November 2021, had endured a years-long struggle with mental illness

The court heard that Tafaifa had endured a years-long struggle with mental illness, including a form of bipolar disorder, had a substantial criminal history, and had often been aggressive with guards. She had also spent time in mental health units and had been homeless.She was on a range of mood stabilisers and antipsychotics at the time of her death, plus a range of other drugs to treat physical ailments.
