Sekhukhune made three changes following their draw against Chippa United, as Sibusiso Vilakazi was given his debut, with Tresor Yamba handed only his second start while goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangare was recalled.
The sides took time to get their rhythm in the game with no shots on target midway through the first stanza and it was Sekhukhune who upped their tempo towards the hour-mark, as Abafana Bes'thende goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana put his body on the line to parry away a dangerous free-kick from Babina Noko.
Arrows continued to threaten from a couple of set-pieces around the box but they could not utilise their chances as the sides went to the break deadlocked. The hosts started on a high note in the second stanza as Ntsako Makhubela had a chance to break the deadlock ten minutes in after a cross by Ndwandwe but he dragged his shot wide.
