This week at the 'Thierry Mugler: Couturissime exhibition,' the new cast of RuPaulsDragRace paid homage to Mugler by recreating the designer's most iconic looks:
“The Mugler collection that has always inspired me is his 1997 spring couture collection, named Les Insectes. If I weren’t a drag artist, I’d either be a film director or an entomologist. Insects have fascinated me my entire life: They are so beautiful yet dangerous and deadly. The piece I was inspired by was originally worn by the legendary Jerry Hall, who some would call a muse for Mugler. This particular look has been worn many times since its initial debut in 1997, even by drag queens.
Escapism, baby!”“My look is an actual Thierry Mugler piece from the Hiver Buick ready-to-wear fall 1989 collection! This look is a signature Mugler silhouette and one of my favorites! I love how the designer made it a point to show the beauty of the human body in every way possible. I also love how he celebrated femininity—how strong and powerful yet soft and delicate the female form can be. The Mugler woman is confident, sexy, and intriguing, and I see a lot of those qualities in my drag.
