Events in downtown Cleveland celebrate Veterans Day

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The men and women who served in the U.S. Armed Forces were honored for Veterans Day Monday in downtown Cleveland.

Inside the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument on Public Square, wreaths were laid by members of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club for each branch of service. A bronze statue of Harvey, a dog who wandered into a military training camp in Massillon and befriended Daniel Sterns, a member of the 104th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, was also unveiled.

About an hour later, the City of Cleveland Veterans Day Parade kicked off in front of City Hall and hundreds of participants wound their way through downtown Cleveland and back to City Hall. Citizens lined the sidewalks and waved, took photos and videos, and cheered as the marchers passed by.
