Microsoft confirms attacks are now underway — this is how to secure your PC.
” on its hands — the scale of which we have not seen before, with hundreds of millions of unsupported PCs. It has forced the Windows-maker to reverse decisions andwho have not yet upgraded to Windows 11.
More critically, we’re told that 500 million users do not have PCs eligible for a Windows 11 upgrade, meaning they’re stuck on the end-of-life OS.. If you’re running an up-to-date Windows 11 install, the update should download and install automatically. You can delay this but you cannot stop it — rightly so. But for Windows 10 users — whether or not your PC is eligible for a Windows 11 upgrade, you don’t now get updated automatically unless you have enrolled for either the enterprise or home user extended security updates .While Oct. 14 became the focus for the end of Windows 10, in reality the key date was this time last month. November’s Patch Tuesday was the first that didn’t push serious fixes to Windows 10 users outside the ESU. This month’s update is the second. The good news is that any fully licensed Windows 10 PC can essentially join the ESU for free. You can do that through your Windows Update options. If you enroll now, you will get this month’s updates as well as those issued in November. It doesn’t matter when you sign up, your updates will be cumulative, and so you don’t miss out. The issue is the longer you leave it, the longer your PC is at risk of attack.
