From being a No. 1 seed to shocked sadness. Lemont’s girls volleyball season has come to a stunning end due to an Illinois High School Association rules violation regarding matches played. Tuesday’s Class 3A regional semifinal match against host Back of the Yards was declared a forfeit when it was discovered that Lemont had played 36 regular-season matches.
rules allow for 35, including conference, nonconference and tournament matches. A match to end the regular season against Chicago Christian pushed Lemont over the limit. Lemont will forfeit that match as well. The seven seniors affected by the ruling were setter Jessica Rimbo, middle hitters Adyson DuVall and Sierra Bleka, libero Riley Conry, defensive specialist Izzy Carnaghi and outside hitters Lydia Pelen and Madie Skwarek.
