The U.S. Secret Service clarified that their agents, not ICE, attempted to enter Hamline Elementary School in Chicago, following initial claims by the school district that it was ICE agents. The Secret Service stated they were investigating a threat against a government official, visiting a local residence before going to the school. While the school staff denied entry to the agents, citing safety protocols, the Secret Service emphasized they do not investigate immigration laws. The Chicago Public Schools acknowledged the misunderstanding, attributing it to community fears surrounding the new administration's immigration policies.

The U.S. Secret Service confirmed Friday agents of theirs attempted to enter a Chicago elementary school earlier in the day, contradicting claims by the school district the agents were from Immigration and Customs Enforcement .in a press conference Friday afternoon ICE agents showed up at Hamline Elementary School. She claimed staff members followed district policy by denying the individuals entry to the building.

However, a spokesperson for the Secret Service told Crisis in the Classroom the individuals were actually members of their agency investigating a threat against a government official. The Secret Service agents visited a local home before coming to Hamline Elementary School, according to the spokesperson.

"The Secret Service investigates all threats made against those we protect, we do not investigate nor enforce immigration laws," they continued.
