Second Pearl Alley Jam fosters community and creativity with live events

The University District hosted their 2nd annual Pearl Alley Jam over the weekend.

The University District Organization held its second annual Pearl Alley Jam on September 7 and 8, 2024 featuring local artists , musicians and vendors The Pearl Alley Jam is a volunteer-led, sustainable block party that welcomes people from all walks of life to discover the area's creative culture and support public art projects.

"I think it's fantastic because it brings the community together in a different way," says Nora Gerber, Executive Director of the University District Organization. "One of the unique features is that we are painting four dumpsters that live in Pearl Alley. " Local artists painted murals on trash dumpsters, adding to thirteen other artistic dumpsters found along Pearl as part of the"It raises the platform for local artists, as well as small and local businesses," Gerber added. "All of the muralists and bands are getting paid."

The event started after the University District Organization conducted community surveys that contained a common theme, the district has an underlying thread of hidden creativity that generally goes unseen.
