San Bernardino County authorities were searching for a second hiker who went missing while trekking Mt. Baldy, officials said Monday, Jan. 23.
Jin Chung, a 75-year-old Los Angeles man, was last seen around 6 a.m. Sunday after splitting from his group to hike alone, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Chung had apparently agreed with his friends to regroup at their vehicle around 2 p.m., but never returned. Rescue crews were continuing their search for Chung on Monday, but a high wind warning prohibited their helicopters from assisting with the search.
The ground search for Chung led authorities to areas previously searched in the efforts to locate British actor“Our heartfelt thanks to the compassionate members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department who are coordinating the search for our beloved Julian,” Sands’ family said in a statement on Monday. “Not least the heroic search teams… who are braving difficult conditions on the ground and in the air to bring Julian home.
As we enter day 11 of the search for Julian Sands on Mt. Baldy, we are reminded of the sheer determination & selflessness of all of the people who have aided in this search. We will continue to utilize the resources available to us. The family would like to share this statement:
