A Secaucus man used the identity of strangers — including one who died in 1988 and another in 2013 — to swindle more than $1 million, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced Thursday.
According to the federal complaint and statements made in court, the fraud occurred between September 2021 and October 2022. Authorities say Lazarre used unlawfully obtained bank account and personal identity information to open accounts in victims’ names without their knowledge. The victims included a former resident of Queens, New York who passed away in or around 1988, a former resident of Akron, Ohio who passed away in or around 2013, a resident of Houston, Texas, a resident of Old Bridge, a resident of Brooklyn, New York and a resident of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
