A photo of a vigil set up for Seattle graduate student Jaahnavi Kandula who was struck and killed by a police car in South Lake Union. Afterward, Auderer left his body-worn camera on as he called SPOG President Mike Solan to report what happened. In a recording released by the police department, Auderer laughs and suggests that Kandula’s life had “limited value” and that the city should “just write a check.” Attendees at those rallies called for criminal charges to be filed against the officer who hit and killed Kandula. They also called for Solan and Auderer to resign or be removed from their positions. Some called for the abolishment of the police union.
“We’re not going to forget about this. The intention is not to interfere with the ongoing investigation. The intention is to show that we are still here,” Jamwal said.Victoria Beach said she would be attending. Beach is the head of the African American Community Advisory Council for SPD. The officer on the video is not the same person as the officer involved in the collision with Ms. Kandula. That is Seattle Police Officer Kevin Dave. People understandably want the conduct of both officers investigated.
