A journey that started in Seattle took scientists from the Allen Institute, all the way to the African nation of Rwanda.

TReND CaMinA program,"Sharing our work and our tools, putting those in other people's hands to see what they can do with them makes our work stronger and that's part of what our mission here is," said Michael Buice, Associate Investigator, Allen Institute .

"The science that we were doing in this course is all computational analysis, so experiments have been done in the labs around us, data's been collected, but what we're sharing with them is that data that's already been, the experiments have been done, already collected the data and they're analyzing that data, they're extracting knowledge, extracting meaning from that data," said Saskia de Vries, Associate Director, Data and Outreach, Allen Institute.

The goal is to diversify neuroscience, empower local students interested in STEM, and increase accessibility to science by bringing it to communities that historically faced barriers to access. "I think a large part of science just in general and what science means for the Allen Institute is participating in the community," Buice said.
