Seattle 's iconic Pier 70, famously featured in MTV 's ' The Real World ' Season 7, has been sold for $11 million, according to a Deed of Trust filed with King County on January 14th. The Seattle Times reports that the pier was acquired by Landmark Event Co ., one of only four privately owned piers on Seattle 's downtown waterfront. Pier 70 gained pop culture recognition after hosting the 1998 season of the reality show.
This season introduced viewers to seven cast members who lived and worked together as 'modulators' for alternative rock radio station KNDD-FM, 107.7 The End. The show marked several milestones for the franchise, including featuring cast members who were already acquainted. David and Nathan, both cadets at the Virginia Military Institute, added a unique dynamic to the series.According to county records, Landmark Event Co. purchased two parcels as part of the deal. The front parcel encompasses the pier itself, which houses office spaces and restaurants, while the second parcel borders the water. The pier last changed hands in 1995 for a considerably lower price of $276,316. Built in 1902, Pier 70 has undergone various transformations throughout its history, transitioning from a functional port to a commercial hub. Renovations in 1999 transformed it into a retail and restaurant destination, attracting both locals and tourists.While King County valued the combined parcels at over $37 million in 2024, the sale price reflects current market conditions, particularly the significant leasing vacancies on the site. Currently, Pier '70' is 36% leased, including a 116-space parking garage and approximately 70,000 square feet of vacant space, presenting leasing opportunities for the new owner. Despite these challenges, Pier 70's nostalgic role in 'The Real World' remains an integral part of its identity, as fans fondly remember the seven cast members who made the historic waterfront their temporary home
