The Ballard Bridge will undergo several weekend closures this spring to complete essential maintenance and preservation work, according to the Seattle Department of Transportation. The closures are part of the 15th Ave W/NW & Ballard Bridge Paving & Safety Project, which was delayed last fall due to rain.
The first closure is scheduled from April 25 to April 28. Lane closures will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 25, with a full bridge closure at 10 p.m. The bridge is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, April 28. Additional closures are planned for May 9-12, May 30-June 2, and June 6-9, with backup dates set for June 13-16 and July 18-21 if necessary. During these closures, work will also be conducted on the nearby Leary Way Bridge. The department emphasized the need for full closures to ensure the safety and efficiency of the work. While the bridge will be closed to vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to cross, although they may be asked to walk their bikes or use alternate routes for safety reasons. Drivers are advised to use the Aurora Bridge as a detour, while the Fremont Bridge should be used only for travel to Fremont or Westlake due to its limited capacity. Bus riders should anticipate longer travel times as buses may be rerouted to the Fremont Bridge, and some bus stops near the Ballard Bridge may be temporarily relocated.The Seattle Department of Transportation encourages residents to sign up for email updates and visit the project webpage for the latest information.
