SEATTLE — Several Seattle public schools went into lockdown Wednesday afternoon following an altercation between two Garfield High School students and a nearby shooting. said Garfield and Nova high schools and Washington and Meany middle schools were all placed on lockdown or shelter-in-place because of the incidents. The safety procedures were lifted just before 2 p.m.
SPD said two vehicles were seen driving away from the school following the incident on the football field. "The teachers just started locking the doors, and we were just like 'What's happening? What's happening?'" said Mason Bennett, a sophomore at Garfield."We heard like drum sounds, we thought it was the band. But it was actually gunshots."Later in the afternoon, Seattle Public Schools said, “This incident was between two families," which many took as meaning adults may have been involved in the conflict.
