Chicago is expected to deal with a first taste of winter Monday, as the National Weather Service already observed the first snowflakes of the season after daybreak.
“We’re about a month ahead of schedule, in terms of the weather that we’ll have today,” said meteorologist Ricky Castro.Chicagoans should expect unseasonably cold conditions and bursts of wind-driven snow, but little to no snow accumulation on the ground.
“Roads are probably going to be too warm for any sort of real accumulations but if the burst of snow happens, we can certainly get some reduced visibility out of that,” Castro said.The first snowflakes of the season at NWS Chicago were just observed with a brief shower.Wind chills will reach sub-freezing temperatures as winds will reach between 25 and 35 miles per hour.
“We’re just going to be cold here for the next few days. And then see a nice warm up in the next weekend,” Castro said. “We’re not locking into this type of weather.”
