The Ducks signed center Trevor Zegras, left, and defenseman Jamie Drysdale to new contracts this summer with the belief that the duo and the rest of the young talent the team has been accumulating in recent years will begin to yield better results on the ice this season.
A more symbiotic special-teams dynamic coupled with improved discipline and positioning would give the Ducks ample opportunity to be more competitive than last season, when they finished in the Pacific Division cellar. Offensively, Jamie Drysdale, the power play’s point man, is healthy again and lottery pick Leo Carlsson appears to be a natural with the man advantage.
“As a skill guy, I know what it’s like when other teams have got those types of guys that can punish you physically,” said winger Troy Terry, who signed a seven-year contract extension this summer. “It’s in your head, it’s a big part of the game, and I think it’s big for us to watch out for, especially, some of the young guys that we’re bringing in.
