The search started around 4 p.m. Saturday, according to the chief of the Pennsylvania Water Rescue team.

The search started around 4 p.m. Saturday when multiple witnesses reported seeing a man go underwater, according to Pennsylvania Water Rescue Chief Branden Bachman.

The identity of the possible victim is uncertain, Bachman said. No one has been reported missing in Northampton County as of Sunday morning and witnesses had few details about what the person looked like. Bachman said about five members of his team are searching the river with about 15 to 20 personnel from the New Jersey side, including New Jersey State Police and the Garden State Recovery Unit. The search ended about 8 p.m. Saturday when it got too dark and resumed at 9 a.m. Sunday, Bachman said. Searchers will use SONAR today to map the bottom of the river.

Water visibility is clear, which helps the searchers, Bachman said. But the river is low, which makes it more challenging to navigate through some areas while preventing the boats from hitting the bottom, he said.
