A former Harris County prosecutor, Sean Teare, a Democrat who left the district attorney’s office in February is running to unseat his longtime boss, District Attorney Kim Ogg, depicting her tenure as one riddled with mistakes.

Sean Teare, with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, speaks to reporters outside the courtroom after Adolfo Serrano appeared at the Criminal Courthouse on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 in Houston. Serrano is charged with intoxication manslaughter following a crash with a Precinct 7 deputy who also died.

A discrimination complaint against Harris County brought by the doctor, Hasan Gokal, is pending in a civil court. Teare said he would have outright joined in the pledge with the other district attorneys: “I am never going to prosecute a doctor or a woman who is seeking medical care.”
