Sean Bean in Robin Hood

We’re only a few weeks away from the premiere of Russell Crowe’s next movie, Beast, which will see him step into the shoes of an MMA trainer for a sports drama set for release on April 10. 2025 was a big year for Crowe, who finally brought his World War II courtroom drama Nuremberg to the big screen after years in development limbo.

Crowe is a three-time Oscar nominee and even a winner of the award for his performance in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator. Still, he also received nods for his performances in The Insider and A Beautiful Mind. Crowe reunited with his Gladiator director years later for Robin Hood, the controversial historical epic that remains discussed to this day as one of Crowe’s most divisive films. While Robin Hood may not be based on any one particular novel or novel series like Game of Thrones or The Lord of the Rings, there have been plenty of attempts to adapt the story over the years. Kevin Costner played the character all the way back in 1991 in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and Cary Elwes picked up the bow just two years later in Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Eight years after Crowe’s version, Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx starred in a more modern version of Robin Hood, and Amazon MGM’s version of the series debuted late last year. Although it’s been over four months since the first episode of Robin Hood premiered on MGM+, the show is still in the streaming top 10 in America. It surged earlier this year following the announcement that it had been renewed for Season 2. Related Reunions Not a Moment Too Soonions — The Collider TV Quiz! Posts By Macklen Makhloghi What Does This Mean for ‘Robin Hood’ Season 2? Robin Hood still hanging around streaming charts months after going off the air is a great sign for Season 2. It shows that demand for the series is still there, which will force Amazon to put the second season on a fast track. Maggie Lovitt reviewed the series for Collider, giving it high praise, including 9/10 stars and some glowing positives, such as: “Robin Hood rises to the challenge of delivering a series aimed at a modern audience who is ready to embrace the historical richness of the epic legend,” and “Robin Hood unafraid to embrace the romance of the legend, with characters that aren’t solely defines by those romances.” Subscribe to our newsletter for Robin Hood coverage Hungry for more on Robin Hood and streaming dramas?
