The Seahawks host the Panthers on a special day in franchise history.

are on a high and at home after a thrilling overtime win over the Detroit Lions last Sunday. Off the back of an unexpected road win, the Seahawks welcome the Carolina Panthers into town, but not No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young. The rookie QB is out with an ankle injury, so Andy Dalton is starting for the first time in this, ahem, young season.

Besides the importance of the Seahawks getting another win to build off last week’s success, this is a special afternoon for the franchise. Ten years ago the Seahawks started off the regular season with the win over the Carolina Panthers, and ended the postseason lifting the Lombardi Trophy for the first time.

This is a live summary, with a complete recap and highlights coming once the game is over. The paragraph you see right now will disappear in just about three hours or so. This is more like a running commentary separate from the game threads , and refreshing this page will produce updates. When the game ends, this turns into a post-game hangout for the comments section! The Seahawks got the ball first for the third straight week, but unlike the last two weeks they failed to get points.

Seattle benefited from an iffy face mask call on Justin Houston, which gave them a free 15 on a Ken Walker run. A big pass to DK Metcalf set them up in Carolina territory, but a 3rd and 1 direct snap to Walker was snuffed. On 4th and 1 at Carolina’s 29, Pete Carroll went for it and Walker just about got it. Iffy spot, really bizarre measurement! Seattle would have to settle for a field goal, which Jason Myers converted from 43.

Carolina had another drive destroyed by a sack, this time courtesy of Jarran Reed and friends on a blitz.Seattle got the ball back and it only took a few plays to get into Carolina’s red zone, with Geno hitting DK Metcalf deep down the field on a beautiful throw. Evan Brown wiped out a Zach Charbonnet run to the 3 by committing a holding penalty. A sack by Brian Burns backed them up, so Myers had to kick another field goal to give the Seahawks the lead.
