The Seahawks are turning to a rookie at right guard, but not who you might think.
The Seattle Seahawks will be turning to a rookie right guard while starter Anthony Bradford is on injured reserve. No, it’s not Christian Haynes. Sixth-round pick Sataoa Laumea, who’s not even been active on gameday, much less played a regular season snap, will make his NFL debut on Sunday against the New York Jets. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed the decision to reporters on Friday. “He’s earned it,” Macdonald said of Laumea.
The winner of this competition is clearly self-evident. Laumea was a right tackle at Utah over his final two seasons, but did play most of his snaps at right guard in 2021. In preseason, Laumea was exclusively a left guard over the three exhibitions, so this will not only be his first NFL regular season action, it’ll be his first game action at right guard all year.
