The Seahawks head coach explains why Seattle moved on from its starting inside linebackers.
The Seattle Seahawks began the 2024 regular season with free agent signings Tyrel Dodson and Jerome Baker as the starting inside linebackers. Baker only played five games before he was traded for Ernest Jones IV, while Dodson was waived on Monday after starting every game and leading the team in tackles.
“Well, I think holistically as a defense,” Macdonald said, “we weren’t getting it done and we put a lot on our linebackers and so I hate that it had to work out just through because those two guys that we respect a lot and have come in and worked really hard. But sometimes you have to make these decisions and do what you feel is best for our defense to take the next step. And so that was the decision, but it just happened to be those guys. But we do put a lot on our linebackers.
