FILE - Violent insurrectionists loyal to President Donald Trump scale the west wall of the the U.S. Capitol in Washington, Jan. 6, 2021. Matthew Greene pleaded guilty on Wednesday, Dec. 22, to storming the U.S. Capitol with fellow members of the far-right Proud Boys, a milestone in the Justice Department's prosecution of extremists who joined the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Authorities said Cortez and Benjamin Larocca, also of Seabrook, traveled to Washington from Texas to attend a rally on Jan. 6 near the Washington Monument, according to court documents. After making their way to the Capitol from the rally, they joined insurrectionists in breaching a secured area by climbing the stairs and entering into the Capitol's upper west terrace.

Cortez was sprayed with a chemical irritant but refused to move and yelled at the officers, according to the documents. Both men were arrested on March 26, 2021 in Seabrook.
