The San Diego State Aztecs basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Colorado State in their annual 'Orange Out' game, falling 68-63. Despite a valiant effort, SDSU struggled in the second half, managing only one basket over an 11-minute stretch. This loss puts more pressure on the Aztecs to win the Mountain West Conference tournament to secure an NCAA Tournament bid.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. — San Diego State’s basketball team walked into Moby Arena on Saturday night and saw Colorado State players wearing orange uniforms. Then the fans — more orange.
The fourth didn’t go much better. The Aztecs hung around against the orange menace at soldout Moby Arena but succumbed 68-63 after managing just one basket – like, one more than zero – over an 11-minute stretch in the second half. Most NCAA Tournament bracketologists had the Aztecs clinging to one of the final at-large invitations.
The difference was last year several starters had beyond awful games. The Aztecs were minus-32 points with one starter on the floor in what was an eight-point loss, and minus-23 with another starter. Afterward, Byrd said: “I’m more worried about going to Colorado State, because I know he’ll be coming stronger.”
