While at SDCC2023, Screen Rant spoke to Adventure Time: FionnaandCake showrunner Adam Muto (mrmuto) and supervising director Ryann Shannon (Cuppatan) about creating a more mature story and diving into the beloved franchise's multiverse:

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The world of Ooo will soon return with the premiere of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake later this year. The Max spin-off follows the gender-swapped duo Fionna the Human and Cake the Cat , first introduced in the original series as fan fiction of Finn the Human and Jake the Dog created by the Ice King.

Adam Muto: We wanted to find a way to expand the world of Adventure Time without stepping on what we'd done before. So Fionna and Cake were characters in the original series that were really popular but we didn't really kind of explore the nature of their world or where they came from. So, it felt like doing a series with them would be one way to do that. And it kind of starts where the original series ended and Fionna is in a different situation than we've seen her before.

And as far as S&P notes, you just get fewer, which is really nice. We used to have long email chains about somebody getting stabbed, and now it's like just no notes. I'm like, "This is amazing."Adam Muto: Not that we're trying to, but we just don't get as many notes as we used to on that stuff. And it just makes it a lot easier. Ryann Shannon: Yeah, it's still pretty grounded in Adventure Time standard fare. But there are swears now.

Adam Muto: When this starts, he's not the Ice King. He's back to being Simon Petrikov, so he's not magical. He's just a regular human. Now, he's a stranger in a strange land because he's in the world of Ooo, which is very magical and very futuristic and he's just this guy. The last reference points he remembers are the '90s.

Adam Muto: I don't think you can, because you never know how many seasons you're going to get. So even from the first season, it felt like, "Well, we might get canceled, so..." You don't plan too far ahead because if you wait until like a season five payoff, you don't know you'll even get two seasons. So I think after the first couple of seasons and it didn't get canceled, it became a little bit safer to think in longer terms.

Breakingviews - Bank of Japan has its cake and eats itBreakingviews - Bank of Japan has its cake and eats itJapan’s monetary policy is becoming even more unorthodox on the path to normality. Governor Kazuo Ueda on Friday shocked global markets by pledging more flexibility in the Bank of Japan’s yield curve control scheme, its mechanism for controlling long-term interest rates. The central bank said its previous rigid target of keeping yields on 10-year sovereign bonds in a range of 0.5% to minus 0.5% was now just a “reference”. And it promised to buy 10-year bonds at 1%, which Ueda defined as a “just-in-case” cap.
