With its new 'season 10' revival, Scrubs has officially brought back the doctors and nurses of Sacred Heart Hospital. However, there's one iconic actor who sadly couldn't return, but receives a hidden tribute in the reborn series.
Scrubs' New Bar Is Named for 'Ted Buckland' Actor Sam Lloyd In a recent set tour for Architectural Digest, Zach Braff shows fans around various sets, including the reborn Sacred Heart. The tour includes a look at the gang's new hangout Lloyd's Junction - a railway-themed bar significantly bigger than the watering hole where J.D. used to sip his Appletinis. Braff reveals that the bar is named for Sam Lloyd, who portrayed the cowardly Ted Buckland in the original series The idea came from production designer Roger Fires, as a way to honor Lloyd and include him in the return of a show in which he played such a huge part. Sam Lloyd passed away in 2020 due to cancer, having acted in shows including Malcolm in the Middle, Seinfeld and Desperate Housewives. He was also a skilled musician, playing with the Butties and the Blanks, the latter of whom appear in Scrubs as Ted's a cappella group, The Worthless Peons. As Ted, Sam played the hospital's hapless laywer, acting as a reluctant dogsbody to Chief of Medicine Bob Kelso. After years of misery at Kelso's hands, Ted eventually got a romantic subplot with Kate Micucci's Stephanie Gooch, and became a member of the Janitor's 'Brain Trust', along with Todd and Doug. The Bar Also Includes a 'Gift' to Zach Braff In the same tour, Braff reveals another detail of the new bar set. As a gift to Braff, one of the bar taps includes a replica of his rescue pit bull Penny. Braff initially only intended to foster the dog, but became "obsessed" with the hound and quickly adopted her. Other details in Lloyd's Crossing include a pool table and neon signs of a tic-tac-toe board and the phrase "This must be the place." In the original series, the set was constructed inside a real hospital, with the bar set squeezed into the former urgent care unit. Braff celebrates that in the new season, the set is larger and less attached, though he does note that the artificial smoke from bar scenes can still drift into other sets.
