Sidney and Gale in Scream 7

Scream 7 has a big Ghostface problem, but, interestingly enough, the movie subtly reveals the solution to this problem. Scream arrived in 1996 to revitalize the slasher genre, quickly earning a spot among the best horror movies of all time and spawning a franchise with seven movies and a TV show.

After supposedly ending in 2011 with Scream 4, the franchise was brought back to life in 2022 with Scream, the beginning of the reboot trilogy with new Final Girls Sam and Tara . However, after behind-the-scenes problems, Scream 7 moved forward with Sidney back as its main character. Scream 7 sees Sidney, her husband Mark , and their teenage daughter Tatum being targeted by a new Ghostface killer. Unfortunately, Scream 7 has a disappointing Ghostface reveal, but the solution to this was revealed in the movie. Mindy Gives Away The Key To The Saga In Scream 7 The Scream saga was possible thanks to Sidney Prescott, who was the target of different Ghostface killers in the first four movies. Sidney returned in Scream 2022 to help Sam and Tara, without her being the main target of the killers. Scream 6 became the first movie without Sidney, with Gale mentioning that she and her family had relocated to a safe place. With Sam and Tara no longer part of the reboot movies, Scream 7 brought Sidney back and made her and Tatum the main targets of the Ghostface killers. Scream 7 also brought Gale, Chad , and Mindy back , with the three now working together, as the twins are now Gale’s assistants. While Gale and Sidney investigated a nearby mental institution, Chad and Mindy told Tatum to bring all of her friends together to, hopefully, find out who the killer was. Mindy, who in the reboot movies served as the horror fan who delivered the “rules” and meta commentary, told Tatum that the Ghostface killer has always had a personal connection to the target . In the end, the Ghostface killers in Scream 7 didn’t have a personal or meaningful connection to Sidney and Tatum: Jessica , their neighbor who felt “betrayed” by Sidney deciding to live a quiet and peaceful life, Marco , an employee at a mental institution where he met Jessica, and Karl , a patient from that mental institution. This resulted in the most underwhelming Ghostface reveal in the Scream saga, which also made it the one that feels the most disconnected due to their lack of actual connection to Sidney and Tatum. It’s even worse when remembering that Mindy pretty much gave the solution to this problem minutes before. Scream 7 Had Its Best Ghostface Solution There, Even If Controversial Tatum’s boyfriend and her classmate who was obsessed with Sidney and the Woodsboro murders would have been very obvious Ghostface killers, which would have repeated old tricks, but Scream 7 gave a better solution. From the beginning, Scream 7 tries to make the audience believe that Stu Macher is alive. This uses a real-life popular theory among Scream fans that claimed Stu somehow survived being electrocuted and had been either hiding or orchestrating all Ghostface murders ever since. Stu actually being alive would have been a controversial move, but it would have worked a lot better than Jessica, Marco, and Karl. At the very least, Stu would have had a strong reason to go after Sidney and Tatum, and he could have even been revealed as the mastermind, with Jessica, Marco, and Karl being his pawns. If not Stu, Scream 7 could have also made Roman Bridger the killer, though that would have been harder to believe, as Sidney shot him in the head. Seeing how Scream 7 mentioned the solution to its Ghostface problem and toyed with alternatives that would have been better than the final product can be frustrating for long-time fans, but, when looking at it from a different perspective, Scream 7 did its best to break the saga’s formula and do something different. 15 6.4/10 3/10 Scream 7 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed R Horror Mystery Release Date February 27, 2026 Runtime 114 Minutes Director Kevin Williamson Writers Kevin Williamson, Guy Busick, James Vanderbilt Producers William Sherak, Paul Neinstein Cast See All
